Work can be good for our mental health, giving us a sense of purpose, boosting our self-esteem, and provide opportunities to connect with others. However, it can also be a source of stress and anxiety, and a contributing factor to a developing or pre-existing mental health problem.
One in four people will experience a mental health problem of some kind every year in England and with one in six people experiencing mental health problems in the workplace, and it is vital that we create an environment where everyone feels comfortable discussing their mental health and well-being.
At 1st Line Defence we are passionate about doing the right thing for every individual. We have mental health resources and mental health first-aiders to support our staff, and our goal is to foster an open and supportive culture where staff feel confident about reaching out for help without hesitation.
In our industry, we hire a large number of ex-military professionals to support our services and to anyone in the community who might be going through a difficult period and needs support – our lines are always open if you need a chat.
Everyone is battling different challenges and circumstances, be kind and considerate – it can make a huge difference to someone’s day and remember that support is always available if you need it.
